Stephen is being stoned outside the city. He looks up and sees Jesus standing. In the ancient world a judge was seated. But a witness stood to acknowledge what they had seen. Jesus stood for Stephen. Not as a judge. As a witness. Matthew 10:32. Whoever acknowledges me before others I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
